Funk Dance Competition

Funk Dance National Championships: A made-for-television event aired on the ESPN Network. Hosted by James Black & MaDonna Grimes. Funk Styles refers to a group of street dance styles that originated in California and consisting of a relatively new format of dance called “Hip-Hop.” It included a wide range of styles, including Breaking, Locking, Popping, Robot, Waving, Electric Boogaloo, the Worm and Moon Walking. One of the reasons funk styles appeared was to give these dances their own identity. These were the Championships held in Venice, California.
